RENO, NV, April 9, 2007 -- The Bridge Center, an innovative Reno-based non-profit provider of comprehensive counter-truancy, substance abuse, and family counseling services has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with The Greenhorn Ranch, a popular family vacation ranch located in Quincy, California.
Under the terms of the MOU, The Bridge Center will have exclusive use of the Greenhorn ranch facilities for the period of November 1, 2007 through April 30, 2008 in order to provide substance abuse treatment to specially-screened adolescents. The Bridge Center will provide trained and licensed clinical staff, while The Greenhorn Ranch will offer its facilities, housing, horses, and personnel to run routine ranch operations.
While under The Bridge Center’s supervision, the location will be known as Destiny Ranch, reflecting The Bridge Center’s underlining belief that “Destiny is a matter of choice.” Destiny Ranch programs will be facilitated in accordance with standards established by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), a non-profit organization developed to address the need for resources, education, and professionalism in the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
“If traditional treatment models prove ineffective in reducing or eliminating adolescent substance abuse, then we believe in instituting dynamic, creative, and innovative alternatives,” Said Marc Deal, The Bridge Center’s founder and CEO, “Destiny Ranch will serve as one of many of The Bridge Center’s leading-edge tools for investing in Nevada’s youth.”
Deal added that the Destiny Ranch program is a collaborative project between Greenhorn Ranch and The Bridge Center, and in addition to equine-therapy, the program will offer psychiatric as well as family-based counseling services as well as an educational track with approved credits, which will allow adolescents to attend during the school year without falling behind scholastically.
